News from the Young People's Programme
Two young scientists from the UK recently won the opportunity to meet like-minded people from across the globe at the London International Youth Science Forum. On Friday 21st April the Scottish CREST Award Final took place at the University of Abertay, Dundee. Science is a colourful subject, both literally and in its exciting discoveries, so as part of National Science Week, we are launching Illuminate, a photography competition aimed at capturing the colour in science. On 16 September five British teenagers flew to Moscow to take part in the EU Contest for Young Scientists. A schools-industry initiative started by the BA has been picked out for a prestigious award present by Tony Blair. On June 28th pupils from schools around the North West attended the BA CREST regional awards, held at the University of Salford, Greater Manchester. This event, sponsored by AstraZeneca, is one of many regional Crest finals that have been happening across the UK. Cambridge University Science Productions will be webcasting lectures from the Festival. The webcasting programme will be tailored particularly to schools in the UK and Ireland. Gurjit Singh Sidhu from Dundee headed off to Phoenix, to represent our top young scientists at ISEF. All over the UK, hundreds of thousands of people took part in science events to celebrate National Science Week (11-20 March). The Scottish Final of the BA CREST Awards took place at Dundee University on Thursday, 21st April. With 50 projects entered, 27 of them at Bronze level, this was the largest Scottish final ever.
